Match cards by month, collect sets, then stop and score, or call “koi-koi” and push your luck.

Each turn, play a card from your hand onto a field card of the same month (the same flower) to capture both. No match: it stays on the field. Then the top of the deck is turned over and matched the same way. Cards in your hand that can capture glow.

Each month has four cards: a bright, an animal, a ribbon and plain cards. Sets of them are yaku: three brights (5), boar–deer–butterflies (5), three poetry or three blue ribbons (5), the sake cup with the cherry curtain or the moon (5), five animals, five ribbons or ten plain cards (1 each, plus one per extra card).

When you make a yaku, stop to score it, or call koi-koi to keep playing for more. If the other side scores after your koi-koi, their points double. Seven points or more also double.
